Beta Release 1.2 of Sundered Realms
It's been great seeing all of the downloads coming in for Sundered Realms and I am excited to continue growing the community.
This most recent update is targeted at following through with some of our previous goals to update some of the terminology, as well as a significant number of adjustments to abilities to better capture their intended functionality. One of the significant changes that came in these release notes was in the Augment Audit. Here is the rationale behind it:
There are many abilities and effects which should be tagged as augments which are frankly not. The general rule of thumb for determining if something is an augment is if the answer to the following questions is yes:
- Is the effect magical or an applied substance (ie, poison) in nature?
- Is the effect applied around the weapon, rather than the wielder or changing the form of the weapon?
- Does the effect apply to a limited number of attacks and is not a permanent feature of the weapon?
Keep in mind, that higher level martial characters are capable of supernatural feats that are not necessarily magic. Extreme brutality and inhumanely precise attacks that cause additional effects are not augments. As a result of this standardization, a large number of magical and physical abilities that use magic are now considered Augments. Here is the full list of abilities affected by this change. Some have received additional changes
I also did a revisiting of the battlemage to give them better defensive tools since their previous kit frankly lacked any. They are a close range front line class with only slightly more health than a squishy mage. These changes also emphasized their ability to fight with their weapons to make them one of the premier damage dealers for 2h weapons using whirlwind strikes. We also closed in a few exploitative builds such as Dual Wielding Aeronaut's Final Breath. We also found that Rogues were underserved, especially once magic weapons enter the mix. They were horribly bad at turning magic weapons into damage, especially compared to other classes, so they now deal double weapon damage as well when they sneak attack.
